Taiwan’s textile industry has a long and complex relationship with innovation. Despite fluctuations in the industrial sector over the years, Taiwanese manufacturers have remained increasingly competitive thanks to their creative mindsets.

With this observation in mind, the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF, 紡拓會) recently released an explainer video detailing the latest developments of one of the country’s most innovative sectors — “Discover Taiwan Textiles” (發現臺灣紡織).

The video is part of the Textile Export Promotion Project (TEPP, 紡織品整合行銷與商機開發計畫) commissioned by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (國貿局), Ministry of Economic Affairs to highlight Taiwan manufacturers’ creative thinking and technological know-how.

Manufacturers, such as Ta Cherng Embroidery (大成刺繡), JSRTEX Group (台沅興業), Nam Liong Global Corporation, Tainan Branch (南良國際台南) and Chung Ming Textiles (崇銘紡織), are fine examples of this tradition of innovation.

Meeting Clients’ and Society’s Expectations Through Innovation

By making small changes in its production methods, Chung Ming Textiles (崇銘紡織) aims to make a big difference for the planet. The Taiwanese company has developed many strategies to reduce its environmental impacts and create a brighter future for textiles.

Chung Ming Textiles has adopted sustainable practices, such as using recycled materials, investing in renewable energy, and reducing water and chemical use. As the expectations for sustainable textile products continue to grow, the company aims to lead by example.

“We are trying to keep our company’s production and operations balanced, but we have set an important goal for 2023, which is to lower the amount of waste we produce by 10%,” said Jim Chen (陳俊嘉), general manager of Chung Ming Textiles.

Since 1988, the Taichung-based company has built a solid R&D team, using the newest technology and equipment to expand in various industries, including sports apparel and gear, shoes, hats, medical products, and furniture.

“Our daily lives inspire us,” he added, citing various innovative materials used in Chung Ming Textiles’ products, such as Graphene for its excellent thermal conductivity and copper for its antimicrobial properties. “We also know tree bark absorbs water, so we adopt this characteristic and turn it into moist-absorbent fibers.”
